Yesterday we welcomed Cohort #2 to GrowLab with some snacks, coffee, and direction. Quickly we’ll be diving into each company’s business plan and outlook for the next few months, aiming to identify the strongest possible mentors and meetings that will help them succeed faster.
The Vancouver teams showed up early, and GrowLab founders Leonard Brody, Boris Wertz, and Deb Landa video conferenced in from San Francisco with the Skyscrpr duo.
Mike Edwards opened up the day outlining that even GrowLab itself is a startup and the program will be continually improving and iterating, just like the cohort’s businesses. One plan is to implement continuous on-boarding as opposed to having just two intake dates each year. Expect more from us on that!
Afterwards, teams gathered together to identify their starting points, goals and highest short-term priorities. Each team lead shared these directives in front of the group for feedback.
Leonard Brody closed the day with his two truths: (paraphrased) 1. Entrepreneurs need to be rogues. Be balsy & get out of your comfort zone. 2. Think seriously about why you’re doing this. Connect decisions and process to your personal life. A disconnect between personal and business goal leads to disaster.
To cap off the day, each team had a short meeting with Alex Baker (VC at Relay Ventures & GrowLab funder) to be challenged, get some early advice and brainstorm mentor connections that should happen going forward.
